Plastic, rubber and bath toys
Hard plastic toys can be washed in warm water with a little dish soap, rinsed well and air-dried. Some are labeled dishwasher-safe on the top rack, but read the instructions so they do not warp.
Bath toys with holes are a well-known problem: water gets in and stays, and mold forms inside. Squeeze out the water after every bath and leave them open to dry. Once a week, soak them briefly in a half-and-half mix of white vinegar and water, then rinse thoroughly. If dark spots appear inside, discard the toy and replace it.
Quick rules for plastic
- Wash anything that goes in the mouth daily or whenever it gets dirty.
- Do not use concentrated bleach on rubber toys.
- Dry completely before putting them in a bin.
- Replace cracked toys because cracks hold germs.
