Top to bottom, dry before wet
Begin with dry dust removal using a vacuum with a soft nozzle or a long brush: the handrail first, then balusters and corners, then the treads from the top step down. Dry cleaning first stops dust from turning into mud when you mop.
Then wipe damp with a microfiber cloth and a cleaner suited to the material, finishing with a dry cloth or a clean-water pass and drying. With children or elderly people at home, put up a temporary warning, work on one section at a time and keep another section dry for walking.
Useful tools for the job
