Cleaning Your Jeddah Home Before Ramadan and Eid: A Week-by-Week Plan That Eases the Pressure

A home in order before the blessed month saves time and energy for what matters more.

Many people spend the last week before Ramadan cleaning everything at once and are tired before the month begins. Experience shows that spreading the work over three or four weeks is lighter and gives better results, and leaves the final days for shopping and preparation.

In Jeddah the season means hosting family and relatives for iftar, heavy use of the kitchen and majlis, then unexpected visits at Eid. A quick wipe is not enough; shared spaces need specific preparation and then upkeep through the month.

This guide gives a timeline before Ramadan, during it and before Eid, with detail on the kitchen, majlis and bathrooms, what can wait, and when booking a specialist team early helps.

Clean, tidy home kitchen after a deep clean in Jeddah

Quick Summary

  • Start three to four weeks before Ramadan rather than the last week
  • Kitchen and fridge first, since they are the centre of the month
  • Prepare the majlis, sofas and carpets before family iftars
  • Keep Ramadan itself for light upkeep only
  • Book specialist teams early because slots fill up before the season

The timeline before Ramadan

Four weeks is enough to do everything without exhaustion.

Two weeks beforeBathrooms, majlis and upholsteryWash sofas, carpets and curtains if needed

Why not start in the last week?

The last week fills with shopping, cooking and visits, and there is little time for washing upholstery, which needs complete drying. If you leave it late you may have to use sofas or carpets while damp, which adds odour and lengthens drying. Specialist team slots also shrink as the month approaches, so you may not find a time that suits you.

Spreading the work does not mean cleaning every day; two or three days a week with one clear task each is enough as long as the plan is written down and the family shares it.

Kitchen

Kitchen, fridge and pantry: the centre of the month

The most used space in Ramadan, and the one where grease and smells build up fastest.

Deep cleaning the kitchen

Start with high surfaces, the extractor and cabinets, then horizontal surfaces, and the floor last. Leave cleaner on built-up grease for a short time according to the product label, then wipe with a clean cloth. See the kitchen grease guide for handling cabinets and extractors without damaging surfaces.

Do not forget behind the cooker, under the fridge and inside drawers, which collect crumbs and grease and attract insects. Cleaning them before the season reduces problems in the month with the most cooking.

Kitchen checklist

  • Empty the fridge and freezer and check dates before big stock-ups
  • Clean shelves, drawers and door seals
  • Clean the oven, microwave and hob
  • Clean the extractor and its filters and remove grease
  • Clean the sink and its drain and inspect under the sink

Storing food

Before buying large supplies, clean the pantry and shelves and check what is left. Use airtight containers for rice, sugar and flour to limit insects and humidity. In Jeddah, where humidity is high, avoid storing dry goods near floors or damp walls.

Note

If you notice insects in the kitchen, see the pest-control guides on the site; cleaning alone is not always enough.

One more tip for a smaller kitchen

If your kitchen is small, work in zones rather than the whole room: cabinets one day, appliances the next, floor last. A zoned plan keeps the kitchen usable for cooking while you clean, which matters when the household still needs to prepare meals every day.

Majlis

Majlis, sofas and carpets before family iftars

Guests see it first, and upholstery needs time to dry.

Washing upholstery at the right time

Bring forward the washing of sofas, majlis seating and carpets to the early weeks of the plan and leave days for drying and airing. If colours are pale or there are old stains, ask for an assessment to choose the right method. See sofa and majlis stains to learn what you can do at home and what needs a team.

Make sure drying is complete before the first gathering. See damp smell after cleaning if a musty smell comes back.

Preparing the majlis

  • Wash sofas, majlis seating and cushions
  • Clean and air carpets and fitted carpet
  • Wash or clean curtains according to fabric
  • Wipe surfaces and lighting and dust high areas
  • Prepare prayer and hospitality areas with clean surfaces

Bathrooms and guest rooms

Bathrooms are among the most used spaces during visits. Remove scale, check tile joints and silicone, restock basics and run the extractor well before guests come. The limescale and mold guide can help.

During Ramadan

During Ramadan and before Eid: light upkeep only

The aim is to keep the home orderly without heavy effort.

A light Ramadan routine

Do not plan heavy cleaning while fasting. Keep to a short routine: wipe the kitchen after each meal, take out the rubbish, wash dishes before bed, wipe the bathroom and sweep the entrance. It helps to share tasks among family members at times that suit them.

In the last week before Eid focus on floors, glass, the entrance and reception rooms, and prepare spare towels and bedding for Eid visits.

What can wait?

There is no need to wash every curtain or empty every wardrobe before Ramadan if they do not need it. Low-priority tasks can wait until after Eid; it is enough for the kitchen, bathrooms, majlis and bedrooms to be ready. If you need a full clean, home and apartment cleaning and sofa and majlis cleaning can save you time. Message us on WhatsApp early to set a date before the rush.
