A Year-Round Home Cleaning Calendar for Jeddah: What to Do Each Season

Cleaning a Jeddah home is not the same all year; each season brings a different challenge.

What a Jeddah home needs changes from month to month: dust and dusty spells at some times, high humidity at others, intense summer heat that works air conditioners hard and occasional rain in winter. Cleaning the same way all year wastes effort and leaves gaps.

This guide gives a practical calendar that spreads tasks across the seasons, with a fixed weekly and monthly routine and a list of work that suits a specialist deep clean once or twice a year. The calendar is a guide; adjust it for household size, children, pets or allergies.

Each point links to a deeper guide so the calendar does not become a generic list that is hard to act on.

Why does Jeddah need its own calendar?

A hot coastal climate combines two challenges that rarely meet in other cities: dust blowing in from the land and humidity rolling in from the sea. On heavy dust days a fine layer settles on glass and AC units, and on humid days that layer turns sticky and becomes marks that a dry cloth will not lift.

That is why organised households prefer a calendar that adapts to the season: a fixed routine for daily hygiene, then seasonal jobs added when needed instead of waiting for a problem to show.

Spring

Spring and dusty spells: surfaces, glass and AC

Dust gets in however well you seal up; tackling it in the right order halves the time.

Order of work after dust

Start high: fans, AC vents and top shelves, then horizontal surfaces, then glass and finally floors. Use damp cloths to collect dust instead of shaking it, and change the cloth as it gets dirty. Dry sweeping in these days sends dust back into the air.

Check AC filters too: a blocked filter lowers cooling and adds odours. A washable filter can be cleaned in lukewarm water and dried fully before it goes back.

Spring tasks

  • Wash light curtains or shake them gently, then air them
  • Clean window frames and tracks of dust
  • Wipe air vents and extractor covers
  • Inspect the water tank for dust and sediment

Glass and balconies

Dust mixed with dew or humidity leaves streaks on glass. Clean glass when the sun is not directly on it so the cleaner does not dry before wiping, and use a rubber squeegee and a clean towel. See the streak-free window guide for the detail.

Summer

Summer: air conditioners, tanks and ventilation

When AC runs without a break, keeping it clean becomes essential to comfort.

AC first

Before the heat peaks clean the filters, inspect the indoor unit and drain, and listen for unusual noise. Servicing the AC before the season spares you from discovering a fault in the hottest week. Read AC smell and water leak guide if you notice an odour or dripping.

You can also use AC cleaning to clean indoor units with suitable equipment rather than dismantling them yourself.

Safety

Switch off power to the AC before any cleaning, do not spray water on electrical parts and never try to dismantle the outdoor unit without a technician.

Tanks and water

Heat speeds the growth of algae and sediment in partly exposed tanks. Check the lid is tight and note any change in colour or smell. Tank cleaning is specialist work with safety steps; details are in the sediment and algae guide and the water tank cleaning service.

Travel and holidays

Many families travel in summer. Before leaving, empty the fridge of perishables, take the rubbish out, close the taps and set the AC to an economy mode or leave a little ventilation where possible to avoid trapped humidity. On return, air the home before a full clean.

Autumn and winter

Autumn and winter: humidity first, then deep cleaning

Milder weather is a chance for jobs that take time and drying.

Autumn: watch for humidity

As humidity rises and temperatures ease slightly, condensation begins on walls and glass. Watch behind curtains, around AC units and inside wardrobes. Open windows in the drier hours, run extractors and do not let damp clothes pile up. The humidity and mold guide has the prevention detail.

Winter: the deep-cleaning season

Mild weather lets you wash upholstery and carpets and dry them properly, and suits cleaning and reorganising wardrobes and cleaning behind furniture. Set a day for a deep clean of the home with a specialist team, especially in a large home or one with children or allergies.

If heavy rain falls, check roofs, balconies and drains and make sure walls are free of seepage, because moisture from a leak is not solved by routine cleaning.

Suggested winter tasks

  • Wash carpets, sofas, majlis seating and mattresses and dry them fully
  • Clean and reorganise wardrobes and drawers
  • Clean behind furniture and under beds
  • Review bathrooms and kitchens and repair damaged silicone
  • Clean curtains, chandeliers and high lighting
